Pumps

The earliest type of pump was the Archimedes screw, first used by Sennacherib, King of Assyria, for the water systems at the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. We offer a wide range of air pumps and water pumps for all systems. They can be used as replacements or to build your own system. We supply magnetically coupled water pumps, which have no shafts to wear out making them ideal for hydroponics. Our range of reliable, silent operating pumps are suitable for the very smallest of systems right through to much larger ones. Some are adjustable so you can tailor the flow to meet the exact needs of your system.

Add an air pump to your system to introduce fresh oxygen to the nutrient solution. A simple and proven method of obtaining greater growth from your plants and maintaining healthy roots.

Water Pumps

Selecting a water pump when building a new system is crucial. Without the right size pump your system will not perform correctly. Here is an easy way to figure out what size pump you will need. Different types of systems have different methods for determining the size of the pump needed.

In determining the size of the pump required you will need to know two things. One, is how much water is needed to be pumped each watering cycle. Two, is how high the water has to be pumped. All pumps are rated for flow at a designated 'head height', or how high the water needs to be pumped. A pump rated at 295 lph will usually pump 295 lph to a height of 1 foot. That same pump may only pump 40 litres of water to a height of four feet.

Air Pumps

We certainly recommend that you use an air pump to oxygenate the nutrient solution in your grow tank. The extra oxygen will help your plants to grow faster by encouraging the roots to absorb nutrients and water much more quickly. Oxygenating the water will also prevent root diseases such as pythium.
