Hydroponics pH Meter
This pH meter is designed to give accurate readings within twenty seconds. It’s designed to be convenient & easy to use, it is automatically temperature compensated. This is the middle of road priced pH Meter which 3CH stocks. It has been on the market now for many years.
Why should I buy this pH Meter?
This pH Meter has been a popular choice for many years. Its automatic calibration was something which a lot of people built into. Also as the price was around £35 back then it made it a fair value purchase when compared to other options within the market at the time.
The main reason why you should buy any pH meter is that it measures the pH for your nutrient solution. So you can tell if it is either acidic or alkaline. It gives you a digital reading of the pH range. Solutions (water samples) that are too low or are too high of a pH level will damage your plants. The pH of the nutrient solution determines the availability (absorbability) of nutrients provided to the plant. This is why the pH of the water must be checked regular throughout the grow cycle of your crop. So as to ensure your plants are growing to their full potential by consuming the maximum amounts of nutrients (plant food) in the water. This is a very basic overview of why you need a pH meter, it simply makes the process more accurate through being digital.
What other items are required with this pH Meter
Some other important items which are needed are pH buffer 4 and 7, used to make the meter give more accurate readings. The solutions are used as standards to set the pH Meter against. Where as the pH probe cleaner and storage solution, are two products that are seriously under-rated. One stops the build up of layers on the probe from forming and the other keeps it from drying out and needing to be re-calabrated more frequently. If both products are bought it will mean less re-calabration and more accurate readings in between.
What other types of pH Meters are on the Market
Currently we stock a product called a BlueLab Combo meter which measures pH and EC all in one unit. Another option for customers on a budget but still performance focused is this pH Meter.
How does this work
As stated prior the Essentials pH meter is used for testing the pH level of plant nutrient solutions. To use this pH Meter, simply remove the cap and place the tip with the glass sensor into water (nutrient solution). The meter is not fully waterproof so we would not suggest using it to stir the water solution; another mixing device will help provide a more consistent accurate reading from the pH meter prior to sampling. Once applied to water the pH Meter will start to take a reading, you will have to wait around 15-20 seconds for a stable reading to be taken. It will then start to flash and this is the present pH reading for your water sample.

The Essential pH meters do have an energy saving feature that shuts off after a specific amount of time. Battery strength is important as if you fall to change the batteries before it degrades too much, then the accuracy of the readings will be temperamental. This in the past has been one of the many reasons for returns. The pH Meter is good for a minimum of 350 accurate pH test samples.
Warranty on this meters
When buying the Essential pH Meters please bear in mind that we will not replace any fault meters in store. The Essential pH meter will have to be sent off to the supply, for further testing before a replacement will be issued by them or fault corrected. This can take up to a week. We understand that the pH Meter is a fundamentally important piece of apparatus; therefore if a warranty is important to you, then we would suggest buying the higher class brand being BlueLab. Where warranty and returns is much more accommodating process.
The Essential PH Meters lifespan depends on a number of factors, through selling many hundreds through the years. We can state that the two most common issues with the essential pH Meter are dead battery and the probe malfunction with it not being correctly maintained. On average most customers buy a replacement within 18 months or upgrade to a more rugged brand.
