Rockwool is a horticultural growing media made from Basalt rock and Chalk. Rockwool is available in various sizes of cubes and slabs. Rockwool allows abundant quantities of water, nutrients and oxygen to be available to the plants roots. Due to the unique pore structure of the rockwool, it can safely receive large volumes of nutrient solution without leaving it water logged. After watering, rockwool will drain sufficiently, so that 40-50% of the pore space is occupied by air. It is inert so you will have to use nutrients and monitor the pH when using rockwool.
